The Singapore Early Intervention Program (SEIP) is a government initiative aimed at providing early intervention services to children with developmental delays or disabilities. These programs provide intensive support for parents and caregivers who want to raise their children in a nurturing environment. There are three types of early intervention programs. They include:
- Family support and home visits
- Individualized instruction
- Group activities
Services at early intervention schools
- Early Intervention schools (EIS) provide services to children who are at risk of developmental delay or disabilities.
- They are free government-funded centers where parents can bring their kids for assessments and therapies.
- The aim is to identify the child’s needs and help them get better before they reach school age.
- You can enroll your child into the SEIP from birth till he/she turns 3 years old.
- It means that your child will receive educational and therapeutic services during his/her formative years.
How does EIS aid special kids?
Singapore has one of the highest rates of autism in the world. In 2017, the prevalence rate was estimated to be 0.5 percent. It means that out of every 1000 children born in Singapore, 50 would be diagnosed with autism. One in 20 children is affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
- Early intervention school singapore (EIS) is a specialized school for children who are at risk of developmental delays.
- It provides early intervention services to children from birth until they reach age 6.
- The objective of EIS is to provide a comprehensive child development program that nurtures each child to achieve their full potential.
- EIS provides comprehensive services such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, psychology, and social work, among others.
Children with ASD often experience social isolation, communication difficulties, and behavioral challenges. They also tend to be highly sensitive to changes in their environment. As such, parents and caregivers play a critical role in ensuring that these children receive appropriate support throughout their lives.
Singapore has the highest number of EIS centers in Asia. In 2016 alone, over 8,600 children attended these centers. The country also has the highest rate of autism spectrum disorder in the region. It means that there is a high demand for EIS centers.
According to the World Health Organization, ASD affects approximately 1% of the population worldwide. While there is no cure for ASD, early diagnosis and treatment can improve outcomes and reduce associated costs. This is why EIS was established.
